The Perfect Guide to Injecting Before Your Big Day
Written for Canadian Bride Guide by Reeya Tanna
Planning a wedding is stressful, adding cosmetic injections into the mix, now that’s a lot more to handle!
If you’re going the injectable route, you’ll need your Botox to kick in before you say “I do”, and you’ll need those bruises from the lip filler to heal before Nana sees. Thankfully, cosmetic Nurse Reeya from Plumpitupp is here to guide you with a handy guide for organizing your injections before your big day.
Reeya is an advanced cosmetic nurse injector from Toronto, Ontario. In her 2 years of owning a private injection business, she’s treated men and women alike who have all had big events to look forward to. From weddings and birthdays, to vacations and photo shoots, planning your cosmetic injection appointments accordingly can is critical for success It’s important in ensuring you look your best self and feel confident on that special day.
THE FIRST TIMER:
A BOTOX VIRGIN
The idea of facial injections can be scary, but truthfully they’re meant to keep you youthful and enhance your natural features. Maybe you’re feeling the pressure from all of those impressive Instagram collages or J Lo’s Super Bowl Concert. Whatever the influence is, ensure that you’re signing up for injections because you believe that they will make you feel great and that you go to a qualified injector.
Back to Basics: Botox, What is it?Botox is the brand name for Botulinum Toxin, a protein that is used to prevent or decrease the appearance of facial wrinkles by minimizing the contraction of the muscles. Depending on the brand your injector uses, the effects will start to show 7-14 days after the initial date of injections. This means your treatment will need to happen well before any important dates begin. The effects of the treatment will last for approximately 3-4 months. As a first time Botox client I always advise brides and grooms to have their first injections 4-5 months before their events begin. Your injector will develop a better understanding of your muscle strength and have you in for a second session the month before your wedding. You will also have a clearer vision of how the results will look and you can suggest any changes to the movement you may not want for your wedding and you can gauge your likelihood of bruising (which could take two weeks to subside).
When to Get It:
To make this simple, let’s use an example. If your wedding is in May get your first injections in January and the second round in April to have the best results.
Back to Basics: What About Dermal Filler?
In the case of dermal filler, you would request this treatment to “fill” an area of concern or enhance a facial feature. The most common areas for first time filler clients are the lips, cheeks, chin, and jawline. Dermal filler usually lasts 6-9 months before requiring a touch up or additional dosing. However, dermal filler injections have a higher risk of bruising and swelling because the filler takes about 2 weeks to be fully integrated into the skin after the date of injection. With this in mind, I would advise you to get your injections done 1-2 months prior to your wedding events. Your natural features will be enhanced, the filler will be settled, and there should be no noticeable signs of injections. Dermal filler can help you have a more defined side profile and stronger contour under the makeup, as well as restoring your youthfulness by giving you a more rested appearance.
When to Get It:In the same example, if your wedding is in May, I would advise you to get your dermal filler done at your April Botox appointment or in March to be on the safer side.
Back to Basics: Let’s Talk Vampire Facials
A package of Vampire Facial treatments will help you achieve glowing, acne free, and smooth skin. This is a service all the celebs get done, most notably Kim Kardashian who posted a picture of her face covered in blood a few years ago. Freaky, but definitely not what you’re going to end up looking like if your injector knows what they’re doing. The treatment is comprised of microneedling and PRP (platelet rich plasma) which work together in creating flawless skin. If you are targeting hyperpigmentation or acne scarring, vampire facials are best done over a minimum of 3 sessions, each session being a month apart. If you have problem free skin and want to have a natural glow, one treatment seasonally is fine! With the downtime associated with vampire facials you’ll need to have these treatments at least 1 month before any major event, but also 2 weeks apart from any Botox or dermal filler treatments.
When to Get It:Back to our May wedding, if you’re doing a package of 3 vampire facial treatments your timeline should look a bit like this: 1 session in January (two weeks after your Botox), February, and March (two weeks before or after your first filler appointment).
“Overwhelmed yet? That’s why this guide is so important.
THE DESTINATION WEDDING:
A FREQUENT FLIER
The largest factor to consider in having a destination wedding is that dermal filler can swell on the plane.
When to Get It:The minimum time required before hopping on a plane should be 10-14 days after the date of injection. This is a general guideline and to ensure no bruising or swelling is hiding under that veil, see your injector at least 1 month before the destination wedding begins! The Botox and Vampire facial rules are the same as above, but just keep in mind that freshly microneedled skin is sensitive to the sun - pack some extra sunscreen for skin safety!
THE SEASONED CLIENT:
AN ALMOST INJECTOR THEMSELVES
You know the injection roads and are excited to be getting top up needles before your wedding day! Your injector should be just as excited as you because this is a wonderful time to show off how all those injections over the past few years have kept you looking young, fresh, and beautiful. My advice, don’t try anything new or out of the ordinary. I would stay away from increasing any Botox doses or amping up the syringes of filler. Although tempting, sticking to your normal routine will ensure you look elegant, natural and flawless on that stage.
When to Get It:Try to get treatments done at least 2 weeks in advance from your big day to avoid bruising and swelling - try 3-4 weeks ahead of the date to be on the safe side.
Botox, Dermal Filler, and Vampire Facials along with the hundreds of other cosmetic treatments you can find around the world, are incredible options for making your best self shine. Heads up though, these treatments should only be performed by qualified and experienced practitioners (doctors, nurses, and nurse practitioners) in a controlled setting. Definitely see your injector for treatments in a timeline that works best for your skin, individuals needs, and financial plan, and be sure you’ve done your homework. This isn’t kids stuff anymore, you’re getting married!
